Portmore Municipal Council visits Golden Agers

On September 26, 2014 the Portmore Municipal Council’s acting mayor Cllr. Leon Thomas had the opportunity to visit with a few of our centurions in Portmore. They were very sweet and friendly; it was a pleasure to sit down and visit with them. This got me thinking about how blessed we are citizens and how blessed we are to have these friends and family who have come before us in our life.

Many times those in the retirement age are dependent on others for their basic needs and most times, it falls to their children who sometimes have to stay at home with parents or other guardians which gives them little or no time to work as such the Portmore Municipal Council took gifts of food, toiletries and monetary gifts to assist.

We don’t always remember how important it is to take care of those who lived before us but they are a great blessing our generation. Listening to the great lessons and experiences they have to share, those over 70 are of great value to our society and they need to know we care for them and appreciate what they know.

Let’s remember the importance of visiting these special people because after all, we will eventually find ourselves in the same position someday. So let us remember those who came before us in our life and show them the respect they deserve in our day-to-day living. We will not regret it.
