The Portmore Municipal Council in collaboration with the National Housing Trust hosted an ‘Ease of Doing Business Fair and Seminar,’ on Thursday, November 5, 2015, on the grounds of the Portmore Pines Plaza. The first of its’ kind in the municipality of Portmore.
The target audience was the small and medium sized businesses operating in Portmore. The concept was to assist this sector in increasing their capacity to develop and grow their businesses, to improve their overall well-being, and also the Municipality’s local economic development. The aim was to bring together the respective agencies which impact on the formation and development of businesses, to steer the process.
Acting Mayor Leon Thomas brought greetings on behalf of the Council and declared the day open. The event was welcomed by the business sector and over twenty (20) companies participated from both Private and Public Sector; provided information, gave samples of their product and encouraged business operators to formalize their operations.
The Seminar which took place in the afternoon focused on providing best practices information at each stage of business development. In attendance were our Acting mayor, Leon Thomas, The Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Hon Noel Arscott, Chairman of the National Housing Trust, Dr. Hon. Carlton Davis, State Minister Colin Fagan, Ministry of Local Government and Community Development and State Minister Arnaldo Brown, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
