November 2018 was celebrated as Local Government month and as part of the celebrations, the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development arranged a series of events for this year's Youth Mayors.
Local Government Minister, Desmond McKenzie engaged the Youth Mayors from across the island in a number of activities which included, for the first time, a Youth Mayor’s Forum. Speaking at the Forum in Clarendon, Minister Desmond McKenzie said he was pleased by the presentations made by the Youth Mayors as part of their contribution to Local Governance. The forum was held under the theme: Strategies that can enhance the care and protection of the populace that is currently in infirmaries. Minister McKenzie also urged Youth Mayors to be the vehicle of transformation in their respective communities as they moved to restore hope through local governance. He said he was satisfied that the country’s future was in good hands.
The youth Mayors also paid courtesy calls on Opposition Leader, Dr. Peter Phillips and were hostred by Minister McKenzie at Youth Mayors’ Luncheon at the Spanish Court hotel. The activities culminated with a courtesy call on Prime Minister, the Most Honourable Andrew Holness.
