A meeting of the Portmore Emergency Operation Center (PEOC) was held on Monday, August 1, 2016 at approximately 6:00 pm in the Council's Conference Room to brief agencies about the tropical wave that was expected to cause significant rainfall on the island which may result in flooding of areas within the Portmore .
Upon being informed about the impending storm the Portmore Municipal Council had placed agencies such as Jamaica Urban Transit Company(J.U.T.C.), Jamaica Constabulary Force(JCF), Red Cross, Jamaica Fire Brigade, Public Helath Department, Shelter Managers and Community Emergency Response Team (CERTs) on high alert. Visits were made to some of the priority shelters to ensure that they would be accessible in the event persons would be required to evacuate their premises.
Based on reports from agencies that were present they are prepared to respond to any incident that may arise as a result of tropical storm Earl or any other storm system that may develope during this hurricane season.
