Planning Department

The Planning Department is engaged in;

  • the processing and approval of building and subdivision applications 
  • change of use applications
  • places of amusement
  • applications for billboards and advertisement signs
  • alterations to buildings
  • enforcement as it relates to illegal buildings among others.

This department, on behalf of the Council, spearheads development control strategies. This is the process by which the Council exercises its statutory duty to control all in accordance with their development plans and structure plans ensuring compliance to the St. Mary Confirmed Development Order.

The department is therefore responsible for;

  • Physical Planning
  • Environmental Management
  • Development Control and Building Regulations
  • Street Vending and Sale of Goods
  • Regulation of Places of Amusement
  • On Street Parking
  • Keeping and Control of Stray Animals
  • Public Nuisances
  • Street Names and Numbering
  • Regulation of Trades and Business Activities.

The department is supervised by the Director of Planning who reports to the Secretary/Manager.
