Be Very Thorough When Adding Names to Land Titles - Angels Division Forum

Senior Legal Officer at the Land Administration and Management Programme (LAMP) Mr. Nickoy Young on Wednesday urged residents of the Angels Division in St. Catherine, to be very thorough when adding names to Land Titles, because once a person's name is added to the Title they automatically have an interest in the land.

Mr. Young was speaking at the Angels Division Community Forum, where Councillor Patricia Harris is Councillor, held at the Angels Primary School, Angels Grove.  Over 75 persons were present.

Approximately six other agencies were represented at the meeting: Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Tax Administration Jamaica, St. Catherine Health Department, Registrar General’s Department, National Solid Waste Management Authority/MPM.

The Corporation’s Acting CEO Andre Griffiths who controlled the discussions, for a moment shared on the importance of paying Property Taxes, what the monies collected is used for and the long term approach the Ministry of Local Government is preparing to take in Local Authorities with monies collected. He noted that paying staff members is one of them.

In the absence of representatives from the National Water Commission, Councillor Harris seized the opportunity to give an update on a prolonged water situation in Angels and other sections of her division, Crescent/Dam Head.

A lengthy discussion ensued and the meeting which started minutes to 6:00 p.m., ended prematurely at 8:13 p.m.
