Labour Day 2016

The St. Tetle Amanot Early Childhood Learning Centre in Taylor Lands, Bull Bay in St. Andrew, has been selected by the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) as its 2016 Labour Day project on May 23.
Labour Day 2016 is being observed under the theme: ‘For Health’s Sake, Keep It Clean’.

Speaking at the KSAC’s monthly meeting on May 10, Deputy Mayor of Kingston, Councillor Andrew Swaby, said the St. Tetle Amanot Early Childhood Learning Centre was chosen as this year’s parish project because they wanted to clean up the school premises and the surrounding community, adding that this would fit in with the Health Ministry’s campaign to get rid of mosquito breeding sites.

“I hope that Councillors and staff of the KSAC will volunteer on Labour Day at this project and at others organized in all divisions,” he said.

Councillor for the Dallas division, Patricia Morgan, explained that the school is located in an unregulated settlement and serves a large population.

“This Labour Day effort is to assist with the Zika Virus prevention programme,” she told JIS News.

Miss Morgan said she is anticipating good support from the residents and the business community.

“The school ground will be cleaned, the school will be painted and old doors will be replaced. We are also going to assist in getting potable water on the compound,” she noted.
Miss Morgan said residents of the surrounding community will be sensitized at community meetings about protecting and maintaining the school.
