PICNIC IN THE PARK

PICNIC IN THE PARK

“It was the perfect picture, and this is what we want to see happening in Emancipation Square”, said one Parish Council St. Catherine member of staff who was observing the groups of children perched in the park refreshing themselves with food and drinks subsequent to a historical tour of the Square and the St. James Cathedral.

The approximately 140 persons consisted of students, parents and teachers from the Jessie Ripoll Primary School located at the corner of South Camp and Deanery Roads, Kingston.

“I have been traveling through Spanish Town all these years and the place meant nothing to me. I had no idea it had such rich heritage, but after this tour, and learning all that I have of the history, I certainly do not feel the same”, said one teacher.

The Spanish Town Heritage Tourism Secretariat, with all the parties involved are endeavoring to see the Historic Square restored to a place of national pride in years to come.
