Safety and Security Committee Community Meeting

The Manchester Parish Council in collaboration with the Social Development Commission held its first Safety and Security Committee Community meeting for 2016 at the Lincoln Missionary Church on January 12, 2016.

The Local Government Reform agenda encourages Local Authorities in partnership with other stakeholders to assume the responsibility of Parish Safety and Security (PSS).  Agencies and civil society groups and other stakeholders will be engaged in order to improve the quality of life of citizens and to accelerate development.

What is the Safety and Security Committee 
The Parish Safety and Security Committee (PSSC) is the local channel for facilitating, collaborating, coordinating, aligning and harmonizing the resources and actions in response to the safety and security needs of citizens in accordance with the national policies, strategies and initiatives.  This mechanism supports the State in safety and security initiatives as well as enables citizens to participate in governance in relation to parish safety.  It will work in accordance with the overall direction of the parish and be responsive to local realities and issues.  The PSSC's are Committees of Council chaired by the Mayor and co-chair by the Custos of the Parish.

Why Safety and Security

  • To improve safety and security of the citizens of the parish
  • To strengthen governance by increasing citizens' participation at teh parish level
  • To facilitate partnerships, collaborations and consultations within communities
  • To integrate and coordinate local and national strategies an dresources to improve safety and security of all citizens.

Safety and Security is everybody's business so all citizens need to be involved and be a part of the process.
