Supervisor, Municipal Police

The Municipal Police Supervisor supervises Municipal Officers and reports to the Commercial Services Manager and wil liaise with the following persons from time to time

General members of the Public;
Vendors;
Transport Operators;
Senior Police Officers;
Business Operators;
Tax Administration Jamaica;
Public Health Officers;
Officers of the Municipal Corporation.

Qualifications: 

Specific knowledge required to start:

Knowledge of the Legislation and Regulations governing the work of the Municipal Police including National Solid Waste Management Act, the Hawkers and Peddlers Act.
Knowledge of the Operations, Rules and Regulations and Procedures of the Council. 
 
Passes in the CXC Examinations or it’s equivalent with a minimum of three years working experience with at least on year at a Supervisory level; 

PLUS
 
Successful completion of the Municipal Police Officers Training Programme.

Responsibilities: 

Supervises the activities of all Municipal Police Officers assigned by:

Ensuring that rules governing the conduct of Municipal Police Officers are strictly adhered to;
Providing on-the-job instructions to Officers;
Detailing and dispatching Officers to assigned stations;
Visiting stations/assigned areas on a periodic basis to ensure that they are properly manned and that the required procedures are being followed;
Monitoring and evaluating the performance of Officers assigned.
Prepares routine weekly reports as well as exceptional reports for review by the Commercial Services Manager and the Chief Executive Officer;
Liaises and discusses with the Senior Police Officers, joint activities and special Police support for programmes to be undertaken by the Municipal Police Officers;
Observes Officers in performance of their duties to evaluate their efficiency and to detect and correct inefficient work practices;
Analyses staffing needs and requirement needed to improve the functioning of the Officers and present proposals for consideration;
Co-ordinates assistance to the Jamaica Constabulary Force and other emergency relief staff in cases of emergencies and other special activities;
Participates in public education programmes promoting the roles and functions of the Municipal Police Officers by addressing school groups, civic bodies and other community organizations;
Performs other related duties assigned from time to time. 

AUTHORITY:
The person in this position is authorized to:
Execute Levy Writs and Summonses in conjunction with representatives of the Tax Administration Jamaica;
Arrest offenders;
Grant short leave to Officers supervised;
Recommend promotions, transfers and dismissals of Municipal Police Officers.
