KSAC CONDEMNS KILLING OF CHILD AND ON-GOING VIOLENCE IN WEST KINGSTON

The Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) is concerned about the flare up of violence in sections of West Kingston which has recently claimed the life of Demario White, a two year old boy who was the victim of a drive by shooting which also resulted in his father being badly injured.

Jamaica’s children are our country’s most precious resource and the nation will surely have a blighted future if some in the society continue to treat them as mere collateral in their pursuit of criminal objectives.

We also note the persistent complaints by residents contradicting police reports of an increased security presence in the area which nonetheless has claimed seven lives and left dozens injured in the past two weeks.

Such a situation is clearly of crisis proportions and we are of the mind that additional measures are required including increased cooperation and dialogue between citizens in the area and the police.

The KSAC also calls upon partner state and civil society agencies to intervene to help stem the carnage and restore peace and safety in the affected areas.
