Sign erected at Thetford

Sign erected at Thetford

The sign depicting one of the newest infrastructural developments of the Local Planning Authority to come on stream was officially placed on Monday, July 01, 2017, sometime after 4:00 p.m.

The new sign was erected at the entrance of Thetford Farm road, Church Pen, Old Harbour.  It is next door the perimeter wall of the St. Dorothy's Anglican Church, about two miles from Old Harbour town.  The sign is saying to the residents of St. Catherine and neighboring parishes, a new cemetery, Thetford Interment Park - commemorating the passing and renewal of life is coming soon.

The placement was done in the presence of the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation’s Acting Business Development Officer, Ms. Althea Matthews and Deputy Chief Engineering Officer Mr. Romond Fisher.

The management of the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation has made the cemetery’s development, which has started several years now, one of its priorities and now it is well on its way to commence business soon. Mayor Scott is relatively hopeful that the first burial will be interred by August 2017.

So far a number of amenities have already been installed. For one, the chapel has been erected and is 99 percent complete, the road surface leading to the premises have been paved, water pipes have been laid and electrical connections have been made. Other improvements are presently underway.

The Corporation looks forward to the cemetery’s opening to the public and its first official burial.
